Sterile Processing Technician Job Details

• Location: Mason City, Iowa
• Healthcare Setting: Hospital Operating Room and perioperative services
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,130-$1,210
• Start Date: October 19, 2026
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 17, 2027
• Schedule: 40 hours per week
• Shift: 8-hour evening shifts, 2:30 p.m.-11:00 p.m.
• Call Requirement: Every third weekend call rotation
• Position Type: Hospital-based travel assignment

Sterile Processing Technician Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of sterile processing experience in a hospital or surgical setting
• Current Sterile Processing Technician certification
• Working knowledge of sterilization, disinfection, decontamination, and surgical instrument processing
• Ability to accurately follow infection prevention, safety, and quality standards
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced Operating Room environment
• Availability to participate in the every third weekend call rotation
• Successful completion of required competency assessments and standard pre-assignment screening

Sterile Processing Technician Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and equipment
• Prepare surgical instrument trays and supplies according to procedural and department requirements
• Operate sterilization and sterile processing equipment in accordance with established protocols
• Verify instrument integrity, functionality, sterility indicators, and expiration requirements
• Maintain accurate records related to sterilization cycles, equipment performance, and instrument tracking
• Respond to Operating Room needs while prioritizing urgent and scheduled surgical procedures
• Follow infection prevention, personal protective equipment, and workplace safety standards
• Communicate effectively with surgical services, nursing, and other members of the perioperative team
