Travel MLS Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,690-$1,820
• Location: Reno, Nevada
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel laboratory assignment
• Start Date: November 1, 2026
• End Date: January 30, 2027
• Schedule: Wednesday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
• Additional Schedule Requirement: Every other Wednesday, 10:00 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
• Shift Duration: 10-hour day shifts, with occasional overnight coverage
• Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
• Healthcare Setting: High-volume, 24/7 hospital core laboratory
• Schedule Flexibility: May include weekends, holidays, call shifts, floating within competency, and variable coverage based on department needs

Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) experience required
• At least one prior 13-week travel assignment required
• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification through ASCP required
• Active Nevada laboratory license preferred
• Strong core laboratory or generalist background required; candidates with experience limited exclusively to microbiology or blood bank may not be the ideal fit
• Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a busy, high-acuity clinical laboratory environment
• Availability to work two or three major holidays and pick up one additional shift during the assignment
• Experience with Roche Cobas Pro, Sysmex XN with Cellavision, Stago STAR Max, or UN 3000 is a plus
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and laboratory colleagues

Core Laboratory MLS Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and timely laboratory testing for inpatient and outpatient populations across all age groups
• Apply appropriate knowledge and technical skill across core laboratory and generalist testing areas
• Review, verify, and clearly report test results through the laboratory information system and direct communication when appropriate
• Communicate critical results, testing delays, and other issues that may affect patient care to nursing and medical staff
• Assist clinical laboratory assistants, nurses, and physicians with technical questions and testing concerns
• Follow quality control, safety, regulatory, and laboratory operating procedures
• Perform special procedures while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity when interacting with patients and families
• Float to other laboratory areas within demonstrated competency to support organizational needs
• Contribute to positive customer service and a collaborative, patient-focused laboratory environment
