Job Details

• Location: Charlottesville, VA 22908
• Setting: Hospital-based pediatric respiratory care, NICU, PICU, and high-risk delivery support
• Schedule: Day shift, 12 hours (07:00 – 19:00)
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours per week, with the option to work 48 hours
• Shift Pattern: Self-scheduling model with weekend and holiday coverage expectations
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,810 – $1,940
• Start Date: 11/09/2026
• Orientation: Completion of required onboarding and specialty modules during orientation

Job Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of respiratory therapy experience required
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
• Active BLS and NRP certifications required
• Virginia state respiratory therapist license required; pending license may be accepted if a temporary license can be obtained before start
• Experience in a Level IV NICU required
• Cardiac PICU experience preferred
• ACCS certification preferred
• Must be comfortable caring for neonates, infants, pediatrics, and adolescents
• Ability to float within scope of practice as needed
• Strong communication, adaptability, and critical thinking skills

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced respiratory therapy care for pediatric, NICU, PICU, and high-risk delivery patients
• Support all units within the children’s hospital as needed
• Assist with intubations, extubations, airway management, and ventilator support
• Operate specialized equipment including the Bunnell Jet Ventilator and HFOV 3100A
• Manage therapies such as CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, nitric oxide, tracheostomy care, and aerosol treatments
• Interpret ABGs and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide respiratory support during high-risk deliveries and neonatal transports when needed
• Work every other weekend and every other holiday, including required winter holiday coverage
