Travel RN Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,360-$2,480
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
• Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
• Start Date: November 2, 2026
• Contract End Date: February 1, 2027
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Three weekend shifts within a four-week period
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:5-6
• Care Setting: Acute-care medical-surgical units
• Charting System: Epic
• Orientation: Hospital orientation followed by approximately five days of nursing orientation, including Epic training
• Dress Code: Caribbean blue scrubs

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Requirements

• At least 1.5 years of Registered Nurse experience in a Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care setting
• At least 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience in a large hospital with 450 or more beds
• Current Indiana Registered Nurse license or compact RN license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills
• Ability to float to other medical units and adapt quickly to changing acute-care patient needs

Med/Surg Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care to patients with a broad range of acute and chronic conditions.
• Care for patients with COPD, diabetes, congestive heart failure, end-stage renal disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, infections, sepsis, stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries, and behavioral health concerns.
• Complete focused and head-to-toe assessments, develop and update nursing care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses to treatment.
• Manage IV therapy, IV pumps, heparin and insulin infusions, feeding tubes and pumps, chest tubes, wound vacuums, telemetry monitoring, and blood glucose testing.
• Prepare patients for and provide nursing care related to colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, minor surgery, biopsies, incision and drainage, and amputations.
• Document accurately in Epic and use clinical equipment and healthcare information systems according to unit standards.
• Collaborate with providers, therapy teams, case management, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Float to other medical units as needed while maintaining safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care.
