• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week, excluding the orientation week and weeks when the unit is closed for holidays
• Orientation: 8 hours beginning October 26, 2026
• Call: As needed
• Weekends and Holidays: Flexibility may be required
• Scrubs: Hospital-provided blue scrubs

Certified Surgical First Assistant Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of First Assist experience in a full-service operating room; candidates with 2-3 years of experience are preferred
• Experience supporting multiple surgical service lines and managing emergency situations
• Current Certified Surgical First Assistant credential through NBSTSA
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate degree or applicable surgical first assisting certificate
• Clinical experience with orthopedic and laparoscopic cases
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude, resilience, adaptability, and effective communication skills
• Willingness to float to like units or nearby facilities based on census and operational needs
• COVID-19 vaccination is required unless a qualifying medical or religious exemption applies

Operating Room First Assist Responsibilities

• Provide skilled first-assist support during surgical procedures across applicable service lines
• Assist with orthopedic, laparoscopic, and emergency cases while maintaining a high standard of patient safety
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and contribute to efficient, well-coordinated operating room workflows
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, nurses, technicians, and other members of the perioperative team
• Maintain adherence to sterile technique, surgical protocols, and infection prevention standards
• Adapt to changing case volume and float to comparable units or facilities when needed
• Participate in call coverage and provide schedule flexibility for weekends and holidays as required
