Medical-Surgical Travel RN Requirements

• Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience, including stroke stepdown experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Active New York RN license required
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required; certification may be obtained before the assignment begins
• Current resume documenting relevant medical-surgical and travel nursing experience
• Demonstrated ability to care for adult patients with complex medical and neurological conditions

Stroke Stepdown Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a medical-surgical stroke stepdown unit
• Assess, monitor, and manage patients with stroke, altered mental status, renal disease, dialysis needs, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, pulmonary conditions, and isolation requirements
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate findings to the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Administer medications and treatments while following established patient-safety and infection-control standards
• Use IV pumps, nasogastric tubes, and feeding tubes safely and effectively
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to support positive patient outcomes
• Float to other appropriate units as assigned and adapt quickly to changing patient-care needs
