Registered Respiratory Therapist Job Requirements

- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- Active Illinois Respiratory Therapist license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Strong communication, clinical judgment, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities
- Evaluate respiratory patient outcomes and adjust plans of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care interventions
- Provide respiratory treatments and services as ordered by physicians
- Maintain ongoing communication with medical and nursing staff regarding patient status and treatment needs
- Explain respiratory disease processes, procedures, interventions, and discharge instructions to patients and their responsible persons
- Promote patient understanding and participation in respiratory care plans
- Accept reassignment to other units as needed to support patient care
- Share clinical knowledge with staff and students while serving as a role model for professional respiratory therapy practice
